Pilates is a method of conditioning the body, where exercises develop a series of skills that help the body get stronger, leaner, and move more efficiently. These skills are taught through a system of exercises performed on padded mats, reformer equipment, and other studio apparatus. Every type of class uses one or more of these types of equipment and each provide a complete workout consistent with Joseph Pilates’ original program with modern ideas about the body. This really is the brilliance of Pilates: the endless possibilities of position, resistance and support means that skills can be taught to ANY BODY—WHATEVER THEIR FITNESS LEVEL OR PHYSICAL CONSTRAINTS.
